Wellspring ID Theft

Supervisor Terry received a notice from HR that their IT department had flagged employee Samantha’s internet usage, based on a spike in usage over the prior 48 hours. Samantha had logged 14 hours on non-work related websites in two work days, a violation of policy.

This was unlike Samantha, so Terry sat down with her to discuss the violation. Samantha explained she ran a credit report over the weekend and noticed multiple credit cards and even a car loan taken out in her name that she hadn’t authorized. She had heard horror stories about identity theft; and was panicked, searching the internet for answers about what to do.

Terry told Samantha about the Identity Theft EAP benefit, which includes:

·         A free consultation of up to (60) minutes with a highly trained Fraud Resolution Specialist™ (FRS) who helps with (7) emergency response activities.

·         Assistance with restoring their identity and good credit.

·         Free “ID Theft Emergency Response Kit™” for ID theft victims.

·         Assistance with the steps to dispute fraudulent debts and advice on how to communicate with creditors and collection agencies.

·         Counsel and a document stating the “Preventative Steps” necessary to take in an effort to avoid future ID theft losses and damages to credit score.

·         A referral to an attorney for a free initial legal consultation, who can be retained at 25% off of the attorney’s standard fixed or hourly rates, if legal representation is needed.

Samantha was relieved to hear that help was available. She took a personal day, per policy, to work on resolving the issue. Her supervisor encouraged open communication in the future, should she have an issue that impacts her ability to do her work. Her supervisor made a note of the conversation & the EAP referral in the employee’s informal record.
